Workshop 02: LNG – ready, steady, go?
The second Make a Difference workshop was successfully realised in Lysekil on 14–15 November. The many active discussions during and in-between the presentations were greatly appreciated as different stakeholders shared their knowledge and expertise.
The main purpose of the workshop during day 01 was to survey the development of specific technological solutions for LNG vessels (e.g. main/auxiliary engines). This was done together with seven different system suppliers using a hands-on approach.
Day 02 offered agenda items on trading costs and fuel pricing, a trend analysis of market movements regarding new alternative fuels, as well as a panel discussion on early movers and risk, primarily when it comes to LNG. A guided tour of the Preem Refinery was also included.
Other topics discussed during the workshop were results from ongoing activities within the MaD project such as:
• Project results regarding choice of technology including a decision matrix.
• The operational and economical prerequisites for distribution of LNG, from a holistic perspective.
• Is there a feasible business case to be made for LNG in January 2015?
The event was hosted by Swedish Shipowners’ Association and co-hosted by Sirius Shipping and Preem. For questions regarding the workshop please contact: MakeADifference@sspa.se
